Here are some gross things that can happen of you don’t get or make makeup brush cleaner to use:
1) Your pores can get clogged and have a breakout. If your brushes aren’t clean, then you are just spreading bacteria and dirt from your face and your makeup.
2) You can get staph infection, as dirty brushes can accumulate dead skin cells, dirt, oil and bacteria. These bacteria can include staphylococcus, streptococcus, e-coli and fungus. You think we are exaggerating, but last year, an Australian woman got a staph infection from sharing a makeup brush with a friend and was left paralyzed.
3) The whole idea about using a makeup brush is to apply your makeup smoothly, but that is extremely difficult to do if your brushes are caked with grease, oils and makeup.
4) All of the that grease and dirt plays a toll on your brush’s nice soft bristles, causing them to become harder and more brittle, thus causing your skin to become irritated and blemished.
How and when should you clean your makeup brushes?
Washing your makeup brushes and foundation needs to be part of your regular beauty regime. But how often should you clean your brushes? Every time you use a brush, after using it, spritz a tab of makeup brush cleaner onto the tips. Once a week, you should perform a deeper cleaning.
They will need a few hours to dry off after being cleaned, so make sure you apply your makeup beforehand. To wash your brushes, just follow the simple instructions below:
Step 1: You will need a small bowl, some baby shampoo, your bathroom sink and a lint free cloth.
Step 2: Rinse all of your brushes under warm water, this will rinse off all of the residual makeup. Focus on the tips and bristles, instead of the part of the brush that is attached to the handle, as this can cause water to enter there and loosen the bristles.
Step 3: Fill your small bowl with warm water and a generous squirt of baby shampoo and swirl the tip of your brush in the mixture. If necessary, you can use your fingers to rub the water mixture into the bristles.
Step 4: Rinse your brush under water. Repeat steps 3 and 4, until the rinsed water runs clear.
Step 5: Using your lint free cloth, wipe your brush dry, and if necessary reshaping the bristles as you go.
Step 6: Lay your brushes flat on a towel to dry. Do not lean them against anything, as this can deform the bristles.
By following this formula, you can make your own homemade makeup brush cleaner that is free from toxic chemicals and with supplies that you have on hand.
